Lisa has had a life-long passion for movement....through sports, cheerleading, dance, aerobics, fitness, running and finally yoga, both as a spectator and participant. Along with this passion is her deep curiosity and longing to understand how the human body, mind and spirit function succinctly.
She began studying Yoga 19 years ago in the styles of Ashtanga and Power Yoga. The profound and immediate effect she experienced made her quickly realize that Yoga was more than a physical practice. It was then that she made a commitment to become fully immersed in the study of Yoga Science, which includes postures (asana), breath work (pranayama), meditation, and mantra in order to teach others the transformational benefits of Yoga.
She began teaching in 2000 and obtained her first certification through YogaFit® in 2001. In 2005 she received her 200RYT multi-disciplinary certification (Iyengar, Anusara, and Ashtanga) through the Yoga Center of Columbia in Columbia, MD. In 2005 she began studying with Yogarupa Rod Stryker, founder of ParaYoga®, which “recognizes Yoga as an ancient spiritual tradition capable of enriching all aspects of modern life”. In 2010 she was initiated into the lineage of ParaYoga® and the tradition of Sri Vidya by her teacher, Rod. [ParaYoga®’s unique focus is to offer an approach into the depths of Yogic science. It trains teachers who guide others to realize their highest potential through knowledge and the light of direct experience. www.parayoga.com] In 2013 Lisa will complete her 500RYT, and Level I ParaYoga® Master Teacher Certification.
Since 1983 Lisa has focused her formal education on Sports Physiology, Physical Education and Kinesiology with a minor in English Literature, attending Texas Tech University, University of North Texas, Lubbock Christian University and University of Texas at Arlington. She has been an ACE Certified Personal Trainer since 2000 and has spent the last 12 years of continuing education on Functional and Rehabilitative Training for Baby Boomers and Seniors, Pre and Post- Operative training, Corrective Alignment and Movement Patterns. Through teaching she has found that both of these disciplines highly complement each other and offer her clients a greater opportunity for achieving their fitness and wellness goals.
“I strive to embody the philosophy, the knowledge, the training, the wisdom, and the practice in all that I am and do. I am deeply committed to help my clients/students gain a greater and more intricate understanding of how their bodies work in order for them to heal, become stronger, and ultimately become inspired to embrace their most authentic self and live their lives with health, purpose and fulfillment. I desire to be a catalyst for continuing to spread the wisdom of these teachings to as many souls as possible. I absolutely LOVE teaching and hope to illuminate the path for others on their journey to wellness”.
